Nobody can lend you a hand if you quit on yourself - Mahagathe

Nobody can lend you a hand if you quit on yourself

Nobody can lend you a hand if you quit on yourself.

शमथ। Samatha

“Why should I keep on trying when nothing is working the way I want?” I tell such persons, “Stop
trying”. A month or two later I hear the same complaint again.
I ask them, “Weren’t you the one who was tired of trying?”
They reply, “Yes, but I thought this time things would have been different”
“Ah, were things exactly the same as before?”
“No, but I didn’t get what I want”
“Did you participate in what was going on around you, or were you fully stuck on having things your way?”
“Hmm, why should I participate when ultimately I am going to be the loser?”
“Who told you are going to lose?”
“Nobody told, but I know”
“So you decided for yourself?”
“Not like that. I mean, what’s the point?”
“What’s the point in what?”
“Leave it. Nothing is going to work”
A month or two later.
“Why should I keep on trying when nothing is working the way I want?”

You have already followed the rest of the conversation. Did you see that the complainant not
only lacks imagination but is also too held up on having things done in a way that he or she
wants? In the process, they completely close themselves down to the various events which are
happening around them. These are their opportunities to make a difference, not by repeating
the old ways, but being present to the current situation.

Do not seek pity. Do not seek to be superior too. An army has everyone from Generals to
footsoldiers. If you approach with a defeatist attitude, you will be a misfit irrespective of the role.

Instead, if you present yourself to the situation, you will be the one to bring about change
irrespective of the role.
