It is important to modulate your desires, but never suppress.
Desires are like trees with many branches and deep roots. Each tree bears a different kind of
fruit from the other. Some fruits may be beneficial for you while some others may not be. Before
differentiating between the fruits, you must know the nature of each tree.
Not everyone has the same affinities or likes. This is quite evident from one’s childhood.
Children born to the same parents do not have the same preferences. This is because each
person has a different nature from the other. Only those desires which can be sustained by your
nature can be found in you.
You have grown up in an environment which has taught you to point fingers. You have filled
your consciousness with these unconscious brandings. You find yourself, as an adult, either for
or against a particular desire. Thus each of you have become missionaries of certain desires
and oppressors of certain others. This is an extremely dangerous and unintelligent approach.
Observe your desires. Relate those with your natural disposition. Understand where the
presence of each desire is taking you to. Use this combination of observation and
understanding to regulate the presence of each tree. Do not be addicted to any fruit.
