The path to success lies in the relentless pursuit of success, with intelligence.

शमथ। Samatha

“Do you envy successful people?”
“Oh! No. You think I am so cheap?’
“Then why do you find faults with them?”
“Hmm, I was just saying what everyone thinks.”
“Then why don’t the higher ups say so.”
“Hmm, they may be up to something.”

You are no stranger to the above dialogue, are you? It is with a colleague sometimes, at other
times it is with yourself. Can any possible good come out of it if you are going to stick to the
arguments above? They are nothing more than speculations. When did speculation alone yield
any result!

What have you defined success as? Is somebody else’s achievement your yardstick of
success? Success is an experience of fulfillment. For it to be really yours, there should not be
any trace of the other in it. That means real success is pure. There is no place for jealousy,
anger, dejection or even a sense of achievement in it. Success is the name superimposed on a
duty performed to its optimum level.

Is it too difficult to digest? Does it sound too preachy? It may appear so because you never
think of what is beyond “I have given my best” or “I have tried my best”. A duty is not about you
or your best. It is about bringing out the best out of a situation or a task. Otherwise, you end up
limiting the true potential of what is entrusted to your care because you are preoccupied with
giving your best. Give a thought to why success is evading you.

Those who are successful have harnessed their energy to the task at hand. You too will have to
do exactly the same thing. Begin by identifying what your task is. You are on the road of success.
