Disappointments can exist only in expectations

Disappointments can exist only in expectations.

शमथ। Samatha

At what age did you realize that you exist; can you remember that moment or day or year? It will
be tough to do that. You think you always knew you existed. Then can you recall the moment of
your birth or what you ate as a toddler? Can you remember how you learned to speak?

Whatever you remember from those days will be borrowed from somebody else’s memory.
You did well in those days you have no memory of, didn’t you? Aren’t you doing well now? You
seem not so sure about that. To remain unsure is not a good place to be in life. Take a stock of
your life. Do you lack anything? You will be surprised to discover many blessings in your life you
never thought were important. You will be even more surprised to hear yourself say, “I am doing
well in life”. Even those who are not very liberal in acknowledging life are heard to say, “I am not
doing as bad as I thought”.

Then why do you nag yourself constantly? It is because you have not learnt to balance the
currents in your mind. Don’t your body move in different directions when you are travelling in a
vehicle? Do you simply sit stiff or adjust your body to the movements?  Does Your mind need such
efforts from you to keep it balanced? Do not keep it hooked on certain expectations so much so
that it cannot notice anything else in life. Your mind will feel powerless to do anything.

The very nature of life is progressive. It happens whether you notice it or not. If you are only
interested in your expectations, you will miss it.
